VSCO

I love shooting film and my best shots over the past year or so have all been analogue rather than digital.  But it can be a pain with canisters of only 36 frames and the scanning that has to be done afterwards.

This week I've been playing around with VSCO Film by Visual Supply company for Apple Aperture with some pictures I recently took with my Leica D-Lux 5.  With only a few clicks I was able to quickly bring some warmth and life to the colours...and with all the changes visible in Aperture's workflow it was easy to adjust them to my own person preference while learning a few new tricks about post processing.

While I don't think VSCO film is going to make me trade in my analogue camera gear for a Full frame D-SLR just yet, and it only recreates the look of films like colour negative films like Portra, Fuji and Ilford and not my beloved Cross-Processed Kodak E100G which was discontinued last year (and currently stockpiling).

But it does make me more eager to use my Digital cameras more often as I can finally get a look I am happier with, without spending hours and hours in front of the computer.

Rediscovering Flickr

Is it just me, or since flickr updated their app around the time Instagram annoyed everybody by changing their TOC's there seems to be a whole lot more life going on there than there has been for months.

It's been sad to see how Flickr had been left in limbo by Yahoo for years, and as a result has been steadily bleeding to better looking free places for posting and sharing photos (Google+?).  But it's good to see people coming back because they've always been great for setting the rules for how people can use your photos.

I only wish they would hurry up and update their website because I'm pretty sure it hasn't changed since about 2008, while sites like Facebook updates theirs every few months.

Rediscovering photography

Apart from the odd iPhone picture I hadn't taken many pictures during the autumn concentrating on making music and "beats" instead, but two weeks ago I decided to scan the films that had been lying around the house since visiting Berlin for my birthday in September.

Now I can't wait to go out and take more pictures.

I've always had a soft spot for Moleskin Diaries, even though the reality has always been that each time I buy one I use them for about 2 weeks before they go into a draw never to be used again and thrown away during next year's spring clean.

But once again the temptation got the better of me and I bought a Fitness Diary with J in Berlin, which up until now had remained unused.  With it being the new year and we're both feeling very motivated we've decided to start filling it in, and I made my first entry today.

They say keeping a fitness journal is a good thing, but I mostly just like all the cool ways you can write stuff in Moleskin Diaries.

New Year's Eve 2012 Party Playlist

At last night's New Year's Eve party I was asked to put on some music, so through together this impromptu Party Rockin' playlist with my favorite dance tracks of the year and some old favorites.

Until today I also never knew Abba had a Happy New Year, which went on as close to Midnight as possible.

National Pizza Day

If you didn't know already, Swedish people eat more pizza on New Years Day than any other meal, with Kebab Meat being their favorite topping.

So what better way to finish off the "Biggest Chillout day of the Year", with the nation's favorite.

Love Actually is all around

Since we've been together me and J have a christmas tradition where we watched Love Actually together.

With being in England for the holiday's it seemed like we might miss it, until it showed up in the TV listings on Boxing Day.

Holiday tradition fulfilled...Thanks ITV!

As well as the fore-mentioned Instagram 365 project, here are the other New Year Resolutions I promised myself while sitting at the dinner table last night thinking about what changes I could make for 2013.

  • Keep a fitness journal.
  • Always stay on the 4th notch on my belt buckle.
  • Cook healthier.
  • Release a dance record.
  • Play a gig with my rock band "Widget"
  • Play a dance gig, either solo or with Sound of Pictures.
  • Blog more (yes that means here)

Instagram 365

It was in 2009 when I first decided to do a 365 project, which was decided after buying a new Leica D-Lux 4 for christmas and sitting on the sofa in a Parisian apartment waiting for my friends to get up on New Years Day.

After another 365 project on just the iPhone in 2011 I'm now starting my third this year using only instagram...for three reasons.

  • The app gives you a great way to promote your photos using the App.
  • It's quick and easy to do take and post pictures with only a few filters to play with.
  • There are many services out there for putting your pictures together into a nice looking book, which will also look nice as everything is square shaped.
...which really makes me want to get it together and make the books I always wanted to do with my first 365 projects, but never did.
